For the last few wks, I hv been sensitized to labels n stereotypes of women – esp working mums. It started w a conference speaker who spoke abt need for Dads to be more involved in children’s life. I interpreted one statement to b that “Naggy mums” is a cause for lack of dad’s involvement in family n parenting. I’m sure few mums want to repeat things like “Come back by midnite, don’t take quiet short-cut”, “Switch off computer games, go to sleep”, “Stop eating chips or u will get sorethroat during exams”. So it looks like mums often nag in so many things that there is no opportunity for Dad to set rules n remind kids to cooperate ? Mums use energy to repeat such instructions out of love but I’m sure nagging is NOT their preferred language of love. We often hear “Don’t try to change the husband”. But Mums want to change so we see many attending workshops to communicate better with kids. When Dads r motivated to change themselves, mums can look forward to stop this RIP –Repeating Instructions Patiently- n truly rest n relax.
