For the last two days, Alicias hemoglobin numbers were falling and yesterday she was at a 7.5 and the doctor said if they fell any lower with her next set of labs, which would have been todays labs, she would need a transfusion. Well, she was complaining of head pain and showed signs that the transfusion couldnt wait until today. Shortly after the request went in for a unit of packed red blood cells, the nurse said they were ready. Do you know what that means? That means somebody was a match for her and that blood match was banked! We may not ever know who is the one or ones that matched her, because of confidentiality, but you saved Alicia several hours of misery because she received that transfusion right away. Thank you to everyone that donated blood to be tested. I can look at each of you and think that YOU may have been that person!
