For the last two weeks, I have been painting, baking, decorating and hosting in support of the Alzheimer Society Ottawa and Renfrew County - all in memory of my Aunt Alya. I am proud to say that with the help of so many generous people in our lives (family; colleagues; friends) I have just exceeded the $2,000 mark! My Sweet Memories fundraiser has been an amazing success this year, and I do it in memory of a woman who has been a pillar in my life from the day I was born... I do it -frankly- to try to cope with the loss of a big part of my life... I do it to remember the person and not the disease... I do it to honour only a fraction of what she excelled at, and to celebrate the enigma that she also was... I do it in the hopes that the agony that families go through will be somewhat relieved by an organisation like the Alzheimer Society. Thank you to everyone who supported my initiative: whether it by through straight donations; attending my party; buying cake; or my paintings. Thank you. I wish you all health and happiness and prosperous lives and minds.
