For the past several years, the Breckinridge County Animal Shelter - TopicsExpress

For the past several years, the Breckinridge County Animal Shelter in Hardinsburg KY has worked very hard to obtain grant money, donations to expand our little shelter from 16 runs to a larger facility. We desperately were in need of some quarantine space, a puppy room, a decent office for Tommy Matthews and a treatment room where dogs can be given shots, wormed etc. Maurice Lucas, our Judge Executive Extraordinaire, has worked with Tommy to make this happen. And, while we dont have all the funds we need to finish the entire project, some of the work is scheduled to begin shortly. In the last four years weve taken in 1669 dogs and managed to get 1502 of them out to rescue or adoption. If you extrapolate the numbers further, that is an average of 8 dogs coming in each week, which is half the capacity of the shelter. Our euth rate is an average of 10% over those four years whereas it was 50% or higher before Tommy took the job. And, with few exceptions, the only dogs who have been euthanized are those who were brought in due to dog bites, etc under court quarantine, dogs who were so badly injured (gunshots/hit by a vehicle, etc) that no amount of medical care could save them) or dogs that were aggressive with people and/or other dogs. So, in honor of our new expansion, I ordered these five prints to display in the new facility. Felt a little extravagant when we also need money for the expansion but sometimes you need to do something to draw peoples attention to the animals in need. Cant wait to see them on the walls of the new and improved facility! And, if anyone wants to donate to the expansion of the shelter, you can PM me and I can put you in touch with the Judge Executives staff who will gladly take donations, grant money, corporate sponsorships, etc! Thanks to a great shelter staff, Randy Miller and Alisia Walling Hardin, our volunteer photographer, Juli Jones Butler, all our FB friends who donate so selflessly, operate rescues, drive transports. Youve made all the difference in the world in the lives of the Breck County animals.
