For the past two evenings my son, Adam , has come home from school & told me there is a girl that hates him because his last name is Hoschar. Actually she was instructed by her mother not to associate with him in any way, although she does not know him & he does not know her, simply because of his last name. With that being said & sadly because this is not our first rodeo with this issue so to speak, please let me share a very brief history of the Hoschar descendants & how they originally came to live in the United States & more specifically Jackson County, WV. The first Hoschars came from France in the 1700s & were a financially well to do family who chose to leave their worldly positions (property, barns, homes, livestock, government positions, etc..) so that they might worship free of persecution. It was our ancestors that originally purchased & farmed the land that is now Wright Patterson Air Force Base, & it was also a Hoschar that built & taught at the first school in Jackson County, WV at Wrights Mill (Now Cottageville). Many have served this country through the military, one with George Washington himself. They have worked factories & farmed the land, & in fact are still doing so to this very day. I could go on & on with every detail. My point is...why in the year 2014 is it considered acceptable to hate & judge a child by their last name? Would it be acceptable to judge a child by his race? Friends & neighbors, that would go to court. My family is far from perfect. But my boys have been raised to have respect for those around them. I am asking the same chance to be given to them.
