For the weather geeks out there... You probably noticed how aggressive the 12Z NAM model was with snowfall over a large part of Arkansas Thursday into Friday. The 18Z run seemed much more reasonable with some snow possible over the Ouachitas and western Ozarks early Thursday as the precipitation started. Now the 00Z NAM is back with another set of rather impressive snowfall totals for Thursday and Friday over a large part of the state. The 12Z and 18Z GFS did try to indicate at least the potential for a bit of a rain/snow mix over parts of Arkansas for Friday morning (the 00Z is trickling in now with a hint of a little accumulation). The 12Z ECMWF did have some small accumulations for the northwest quarter of the state in that time frame as well. The big issue is the fact temperatures are not expected to be any lower than the low to mid 30s which would be accumulating snow would be difficult except in a heavy burst on grassy surfaces. Ive refrained from posting all the graphics as I dont want to confuse folks as to the changes between and within model runs--theyll be time for that Wednesday when we all get a better handle on the developing storm system and its track. Needless to say, well watch the forecast closely as should you since we could be looking at the possibility for at least some wintry precipitation Thursday and Friday. Have a good night and we talk about it more tomorrow! #arwx
