For those folks who are wringing their hands and crying over this business of NSA snooping, remember that this system of gathering information is relatively superficial, and not looking at content. What’s far more troubling is the fact that most of your business transactions and personal information is already out there, having been harvested by commercial internet companies and resold for marketing purposes. Every move you make, every breath you take- they are watching you. If you shop online at Amazon, iTunes, Netflix, or shop at websites- if you buy groceries, gas, or anything else with your ATM card- if you get paid by direct deposit and pay your bills online- it’s all been tracked. You can go into a retail store, and if you pay by credit card, they have your contact information in their system. You can use Paypal as a go-between to protect your credit card information, but then Paypal now has it. If you post on your Facebook page that you are in the market for product, you will see the related ads start to appear on the right hand side of your page. If you email a friend and ask for advice about a product, you’ll those subtle little one-line ads on you gmail page. The only way to avoid this is to go completely off the grid, and only do business by direct cash transactions. But by now, for most of us, it’s too late. Even if you disconnect from every possible way that your private information is compromised, you are already being watched.
