For those of you who have yet to apply, the deadline is fast approaching!! UBC Centre for Southeast Asia Research at the UBC Institute of Asian Research Student Assistant Coordinators Program The UBC Centre for Southeast Asia Research (CSEAR) is looking to recruit 3 (three) volunteer Student Assistant Coordinators as part of the new Student Assistant Coordinators Program for January to March 2015. The Student Assistant Coordinators will have the following responsibilities: - Organising and publicity for CSEAR events - Managing the new UBC Southeast Asia Facebook and Twitter accounts - Liaising with Southeast Asian student associations - Assisting the UBC Southeast Asia Graduate Student Network in their series of events - Managing opening hours for the CSEAR Reading Room - Other tasks as required by members of the CSEAR Management Committee In their responsibilities, the Student Assistants will report to CSEAR Co-Director Dr Kai Ostwald, Program Administrator Mr Jason Salim, and Graduate Coordinator Ms Kilim Park. A Student Assistant Coordinator will be required to put in a minimum of 10 hours of service a month. Upon the satisfactory completion of his/her tenure, the Student Assistant Coordinator will receive a reference letter from the CSEAR Co-Directors as well as a one-off $200 stipend. Selection of Student Assistant Coordinators will be based on the following criteria: - Current first to third-year undergraduates from any faculty (graduating in Winter Session 2015/16 and beyond) - Interest in increasing awareness and/or furthering the study of Southeast Asia, particularly in but not limited to the humanities and the social sciences - Knowledge of current affairs pertaining to Southeast Asia and the Asia-Pacific - Ability to work with a wide range of people – students, faculty members, community figures and consular representatives in Vancouver - Experience in events organising and publicity - Proficiency in one other Southeast Asian language (Indonesian, Malay, Vietnamese, Thai, Lao, Burmese, Filipino, Khmer etc.) would be a plus but not compulsory Please send in your cover letter, resume, and timetable for 2014/15 Winter Session Term II to [email protected].
