For those of you who missed our game on wednesday night (Everyone).. heres the post match report courtesy of Jacob the dud dawson! Wednesday night saw the Bushchook’s venture north to the world class Scarborough car park for a highly anticipated game against the lowly placed Mindarie Molotov’s. The game would be the second of the night for the ‘Tovs who are looking to make up five missed rounds of SRHL action. The game also provided the chance for the ‘Chooks to continue their winning ways and take the streak to six. The ‘Chooks were fielding an undermanned team with both playmaker Rainer Leith and two-way defenceman Regan “Rehab” Dalwood not suiting up for the game for undisclosed reasons. This allowed for minor league forward Ryan “Rizza” Hyder to get the nod for his second game of the season. The ‘Chooks also welcomed back captain Cam Dennis, who had missed the previous two games for personal reasons. The ‘Tovs were a team propelled by speed and a hard forecheck not seen since the Board Street Bullies days. The ‘Tovs starting line-up included 2006 Alexander Ovechkin, Alex Edler in a Chicago Bulls Jersey, Wayne Gretzky in his famous motocross jersey and Queensland State team pants and an unnamed and numbered early 2000’s New Jersey Devil. The game saw five fans through the turn styles with 20% of them being women (league record) and the league commissioner himself catching the action from his sky box. The first got underway and the tone of a physical game was set early with numerous slashes and wild high sticks that would have left Brendon Shanahan going over game footage for the next month. As has become customary the ‘Chooks started slow allowing two soft goals in five minutes, with both coming off the stick of 2006 Ovechkin, validating the sneaky Russians scouting report. Ryan “Rizza” Hyder then proved why he had earned a spot in the starting four by bagging his first for the night. The rookie would go on to bag another and end the night with two points. A physical first came to an end with the score reading 3-1 to the ‘Tovs The second again was a physical encounter with the ‘Chooks lifting and starting to play a much tougher brand of hockey. Motocross Wayne Gretzky of the ‘Tovs will surely be having some restless nights ahead of him as many of his checks from behinds, boarding’s and high sticks will be reviewed by the league later in the week. The second also saw more scoring that a Phi Kappa Tou fraternity at spring break with the ‘Chooks bringing it back to within one thanks to the ever soft touch of leading scorer Thomas “Bobby” Robinson and a few zingers from Nicholas “Zibba” Zubrowski”. Cam Dennis also got in on the act lighting the lamp himself. The ‘Tovs rallied late in the period to take a two goal lead heading into the third. The third was a gritty affair with much of the play happening along the boards. The ‘Tovs scored quickly and took a 4-10 lead with only minutes left. The ‘Chooks attempted a late game comeback but could not complete the miracle with the ‘Chooks being downed 10-7 and the streak ending at five. The commissioner will also have a lot to review this week with rumours rife that the Molotov’s are sporting a line up consisting of three or more current ice hockey players. These claims are yet to be confirmed but league commissioner Eamonn Lousey is expected to release a formal statement in the coming days. The ‘Chooks next game is Saturday when they travel back home to face the GLMA Guardians and attempt to get back in the win column.
