For those who arent on the ACT listserv, I just had to trumpet the awesome work the chronic pain researchers are doing with ACT. The Ost meta-analysis doesnt do it justice. In the light of the recent Ost meta-analysis and particularly his assessment of the status of ACT for chronic pain as not fully established, I was curious what chronic pain outcome data does exist. I pulled these RCTs for chronic pain out, and they represent about 15% of the total trials on ACT. That is amazing! Hard to see how ACT isnt an established treatment, given this set of positive RCTs. Geesh this is an impressive list. Way to go everyone with this team effort! Things are changing in the chronic pain world and a lot is due to this fantastic work. Imagine the hundreds of thousands or even millions of people that will be improving their quality of life as this filters through all the chronic pain programs and practitioners around the world. Wow! In case youre in Europe and interested in getting up to date on chronic pain tx, keep in mind JoAnne Dahl is giving a training as part of the Brussels Institute in early September on chronic pain (contextualscience.org/training_institute_2014). Its looking like itll be a pretty intimate event, so if you decide to come, youll get much more individual attention than youd normally get at events by these trainers. I put together a list of all the studies I could find for those interested, pulled from this page contextualscience.org/ACT_Randomized_Controlled_Trials: 96. Pain.
