For those who dont know... This is what the president is offering to the illegals, although he didnt say for how long or for how many: Temporary ability to stay in the country if they pay taxes and pay an extra fine, he wants them registered as residents, they will not get citizenship or a path to citizenship (congress has to do that), and they will not be deported. In order for this to apply, they have to be in the country at least 5 years. They have to pass a criminal background check. This is what he is doing about the immigration problem still going on: Sending more troops to the border, more money to border defenses, and working on deporting criminals. For those who see this as unreasonable, let me ask you what your solution would be. If we attempt to deport them all, it would cost trillions to do it and take years, if it could be (reasonably) done at all. If we split up families, taking parents away from their kids, that would leave their LEGAL children in the foster system, which costs money and puts kids in a situation that needs to be avoided. Yes, illegal immigration is a problem. Nobody is denying that, not even the president. How about fixing it? Make it where it is cheaper to come legally than it is to pay the coyote and go into hiding! Make this the land of opportunity that it once was! Pass a bill, save some families. It is really that simple.
