The last lecture in this interesting series will be delivered by Madison County’s historian laureate, Harold Woodward, Jr.. Mr. Woodward is the author of several books about Madison County history as well as a prolific and entertaining lecturer. Mr. Woodward’s topic will be “The Battle of Jack’s Shop.” He will detail the troop movements leading up to the battle, the battle itself and the aftermath. The battle was fought on September 22, 1863 and pitted the Confederate cavalry under General J.E.B. Stuart against the combined forces of Federal Generals Buford and Kilpatrick. Thousands of troopers and horses were engaged. This lecture will be given at the Madison High School on Wednesday evening at seven o’clock, September 18, 2013.
