For those who or volunteers or who are interested in being volunteers: 2013 Rothrock State Forest Conservation Volunteer Training Saturday, August 10th, 2013 8 AM - Penn Nursery Registration and Conservation Volunteer 8:30 AM Sign-up 8:30 AM – Penn Nursery Sustainable Trails 101 11:00 AM 11 AM - Galbraith Gap Lot Travel and Lunch 12 PM 12 PM- Galbraith Gap Trail Galbraith Gap Trail and Chute Trail 3 PM Chute Trail Projects 3 PM Adjourn Sustainable Trails 101: an interactive and educational look at how we can optimize trail sustainability and user experiences, within the capabilities of the trail system, through an understanding of the influences of terrain, soils, and climate, and use on trail and recreation infrastructure sustainability. Presented by Jeremy Wimpey, Principal, Applied Trails Research.. Galbraith Gap and Chute Trail Projects – We will spend a part of this time examining maintenance practices being incorporated upon these sections of trail, which connect the Galbraith Parking lot to the Lonberger Path. Practices include improving a section of trail impacted by a spring and armoring of the lower section of Chute Trail. The rest of the time will be spent on the hand construction of a sustainable ascent to Lonberger Trail. *** PARTICIPANTS MUST RSVP BY FRIDAY, AUGUST 2ND. THANK YOU! *** Directions to Penn Nursery: From State College, follow 322 East through Potters Mills. Immediately upon coming out of the two-lane, stay to the left and turn into the median. Cross 322 West, then turn right onto old route 322. Penn Nursery is ¼ mile, on the left. Directions to Galbraith Gap Parking Lot (from Boalsburg): Follow 322 East approximately one mile to Bear Meadows Road on the right. Take Bear Meadows Road past the ski slopes; Galbraith Gap Parking Lot is to the left,shortly after coming onto State Forest Land.
