For today ! . And with the sunset`s fading ray, as memories recede, Reflecting this historic day, and man`s heroic deed, The battle flags are lowered, and the `Last post`s ` haunting tune, Is sounded in the memory of those who died too soon. They entered to the jaws of hell, they died upon that sand, In thousands upon thousands, sent by one command, Take the battle to the enemy, - but what the order meant, Was to end the war and slaughter on the foriegn continent. All were heroes on that day, to follow on that word, To march to hells` inferno, all men with one accord, And by their death upon that day, ALL men, including me, Could wander in the freedom of their hard fought victory. So from today another dawn will brighten morning`s day, And england`s life will carry on, in our own unique way, But pause a while, just now and then, and give a quiet prayer, For the heroes of our history, who lost their lives out there !. At the going down of the sun, - and in the morning, WE WILL REMEMBER THEM ! . Mick.
