“For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I - TopicsExpress

“For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God” (Hebrew 10:30-31) Wrong doing happens on this earth. We must deal with it. There is no way to ignore it. Sometimes we are called upon as a jury to administer censure and condemnation for the actions of others. This should never be done personally. It must be done in courts, councils and committees to ensure complete objectivity. The reason for such things is to stop the wrong doing so the hurt can go no further. This is needed. One of my mother’s favorite quotes was, “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” Again, I have heard it said, “Sometimes silence is golden and other times silence is just plain yellow.” Good men must speak up and stop the spread of evil. They must act in the sense of right and wrong and not in vengeance. That brings us to our study on “The Hands of God” for today. Here, we see that the writer of Hebrews says straight and to the point that God said, “Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.” That means the true administration of justice is with the LORD! This is a quote of the Old Testament passage, “To me belongeth vengeance, and recompense; their foot shall slide in due time: for the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things that shall come upon them make haste. For the LORD shall judge his people…” (Deuteronomy 32:35-36a). There were times that God when Himself dealt with wrong doers. Take for instance, the time God caused the ground to opened and swallow Korah and all the people that followed him (Exodus 16:32-33). But other times He made the sinner’s wrong doing open and called on His people to execute judgment as in the case of Achan, who took things that were not his, and even after he confessed his sin and this only after he was caught, God had them execute him (Joshua 7:15-26). In either case, it was according to what God said! When people fall in the depravity of sin they think that it will never come to light and never be dealt with, however, when His people do not repent on their own, God said He would make it known and deal with it. When explaining to the people the need for continuing to live right before God Moses said, “But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin will find you out” (Numbers 32:23). The LORD tells us here that we must let our anger go and allow God to act in vengeance with recompense. For those who have been hurt by someone else’s sins, we have a note of comfort. The Bible says, “It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” We normally do not hear things like this; we hear of God’s mercy and love. We must, however, remember that He is a God of justice and mercy. He has as much justice and vengeance as grace and love. We have to leave all vengeance over to the LORD. If we think He is a pushover and some kind of sentimental grandpa who will go along with anything, we are fooling ourselves. Most certainly it is fearful to be in His presence. There is forgiveness and cleansing if we have sinned, but we may endure punishment for the hurts we have caused. In any instance, we must know that presuming upon God’s goodness to get us out of our punishment is foolish. If we have been hurt by someone, let us find comfort in the fact that God will administer justice. Chris Fisher, Pastor The Church of the New Beginning 03-03-14 Originally written 2/8/12
