For what its worth, heres my two cents. Take it to heart or ignore it, its up to you. I can not speak from the viewpoint of a breast cancer survivor, but I can speak from the viewpoint of the daughter of one. If someone wants to post pictures of themselves without makeup on, WHAT DOES IT MATTER? No...it may not be as brave as facing cancer itself, but what you look at is someones intent. It is my understanding that this whole movement started when an 80 something year old woman was made fun of for her looks when she presented an award at the Oscars. In my opinion, the #nomakeupselfie was more of an in your face, women are beautiful without make up kind of movement. And even if it wasnt, it has raised over two million pounds (equivalent of approx 2.75 million US dollars) for cancer research. For this movement to have morphed from defending an old woman who was made fun of on Twitter....into a cancer awareness/fund raiser, in my opinion, can only be a positive thing. Furthermore, bringing awareness to something doesnt mean youre making them aware of something they didnt know existed. Sometimes we all become complacent and need a kick in the pants, or we need a reminder or something to bring it to the forefront of our minds. If someone wants to post a picture without makeup on...GO FOR IT....I dont think anyone would complain if the money that was raised for research actually helped your mom, your daughter, your friend, or yourself successfully battle cancer. And just one more thing....NO...posting a no makeup selfie is nowhere near as brave as battling cancer...but neither is shaving your head in support of a friend going through chemo. My point is to look at the intent of a persons heart..thats all.
