For what its worth... just some interesting stuff from the biography of Tom Waits Im reading.... He wrote Ol 55 and then the Eagles (who were also with Asylum Records at the time) put it on their 3rd album and it gave a real boost to Toms career. However he didnt like The Eagles ... and said (despite the fact they were already bucking the commercial trends at the time) they were too commercial and phony. But Waits eventually patched things up a lot and also admitted (like a lot of us I suppose) that he was pretty young and was a bit of a jerk popping off with his mouth sometimes just to get recognized more, I suppose. Heres the Eagles doing his song... and then Waits doing it. I really like the Eagles (most of the time... especially their first 3 or 4 albums... but I do believe Toms version of his own song is a lot purer and soulful. Ill post it, too. youtu.be/Fcqfcw3kmoI
