Forecast Bulletin - Mauritius WEATHER NEWS FOR MAURITIUS ISSUED AT 04H45 ON SUNDAY 11 JANUARY 2015. GENERAL SITUATION: (A ) The tropical disturbance is still evolving to the north-west of Mauritius at about 595 km. (B) Active thundery clouds are still influencing the local weather. FORECAST FOR THE NEXT 24 HOURS: Cloudy to overcast at times over the whole island this morning and during the day with scattered showers. The showers will be moderate to heavy and thundery at times and will become more frequent in the afternoon. The maximum temperature will vary between 24 and 26 degrees celsius over the central plateau and will be netween 28 and 31 degrees celsius along the coastal regions. The showers, moderate to heavy and thundery at times will persist over the whole island tonight. The minimum temperature will vary between 21 and 23 degrees celsius over the high grounds and will be between 24 and 26 degrees celsius along the coasts. Wind north-easterly 20 to 30 km/h with gusts of the order of 65 km/h in places strengthening further in the afternoon. Sea rough with north-westerly swells beyond the reefs. The public is advised not to venture out in the open seas as well as in the northern and western lagoons. High Tides: 15h54 and tomorrow 04h42. Low Tides: 10h18 and 22h08. Sunrise: 05h40. Sunset: 18h55. The atmospheric pressure at 04h00: 1009 hectoPascals. Some careful advices in case of heavy showers and thunderstorms. 1. The heavy showers may cause water accumulation in certain places and may lead to flooding of rivers and other water courses. It is therefore advised to avoid these places. 2. In case of thunderstorms, the public is advised to remain in safe places and avoid open areas, sea ventures and sheltering under trees. 3. On the other hand, fog patches will be present in certain places that could reduce the visibility. Road users are advised to be very cautious.
