The upper trough is expected to weaken from Monday. A monsoon trough extends through the Gulf of Carpentaria into Cape York Peninsula and across the northern Coral Sea to a developing monsoon low southwest of the Solomon Islands. The monsoon low is expected to deepen over the next few days and possibly move west through the Coral Sea, though a great deal of uncertainty still exists with its movement. Forecasts from Tuesday are highly dependent on the development and movement of this system. A large high over southeastern Australia will move slowly east over the Tasman Sea during the forecast period, extending a firm ridge along the east Queensland coast to the south of the monsoon trough.
