The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) which is also known as the Hare Krishna movement or Hare Krishnas, is a Gaudiya Vaishnava religious organization.It was founded in 1966 in New York City by A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. Its core beliefs are based on select traditional Hindu scriptures, particularly the Bhagavad-gītā and the Śrīmad Bhāgavatam. ISKCON claims to be a direct descendant of Brahma-Madhva-Gaudiya Vaishnava Sampradaya. ISKCON was formed to spread the practice of bhakti yoga, in which those involved dedicate their thoughts and actions towards pleasing the Supreme Lord, krishna. In todays context ISKCON is a worldwide confederation of more than 550 centers. There are many foreign devotees who have been lowered towards the track of Lord Krishna and wants to be a part of Baikunthadhaama. They have come to know the reality of this maternal world and has chose the way of spiritual world by associating themselves into the ISKCON. This is a maternal world and everything here is, is just to vein people and encourage them for the crime and run within the cycle of death and rebirth. But they have smartly choose Krishna to get rid of this birth cycle. The only way to get rid of this is to chant hari naam. The popular nickname of Hare Krishnas for devotees of this movement comes from the maha mantra that devotees sing aloud on tulsi mala. This mantra, known also as the Maha Mantra, contains the names of God Krishna and Rama. the devotees walk around the street performing naam kirtan.
