Forethought on the 2016 Election Year It has been more than two - TopicsExpress

Forethought on the 2016 Election Year It has been more than two months since the 2014 election and my reflections still remain positive about its outcome. My memories are good ones. Especially the ones of the new friendships developed and the countless individuals with whom I had the distinct pleasure of communicating my thoughts and feelings. Almost immediately after knowing I had lost the race to the North Carolina Senate, my initial response and expression to many of you was, “It’s not over!” When I declared I would run again in 2016, I spoke from my heart. I felt, too, that to not run again would be a huge letdown for all of you who supported me through this fun, but hard fight as your conservative candidate. I believe you trusted me…a trust I worked to earn. You deserve the best I can offer. When I was asked to run in late January, 2014, there was no time to plan or put together an organization. Julia and I, both desperately inexperienced at campaigning, had to ‘hit the ground running’ and flew largely ‘by the seat of our pants.’ We know a repeat of this would be a disaster. Julia and I were the only full time members of our three-member team. Campaign contributions never caught up to the thousands of dollars spent out-of-pocket. Through it all, we believe it was more than worth it. We have no regrets. But that’s no way to run a winning campaign. A successful run in 2016 is doable with a top-notch, well-oiled campaign organization. I can no longer afford to be in reactionary mode for another race. We are praying for God’s wisdom and a sign to know that this is what He wants me to do. Like Gideon of the Bible, I am putting out this fleece test to be reassured that I am your candidate for 2016. I would need experienced people to come forth and take charge of the next campaign and adequate funds to operate on, before the end of this year. Meanwhile, I will be seeking counsel from those who have been there and done that, and getting more involved in local community activity. I covet your prayers and continued support. Truly yours, Herman J. Joubert January 14, 2015
