Forgive me, but I must rant: I sold a phone on eBay, the buyer - TopicsExpress

Forgive me, but I must rant: I sold a phone on eBay, the buyer took advantage of their system, and eBay is doing nothing to help me. I was wary of this buyer because they contacted me directly saying the item was “paid” and provided an address to send the item to. I was suspicious because it didn’t show up on eBay as being paid, so I filed a claim on the 15th then waited until I saw that payment had been made on eBay (eBay showed “payment received and they charged me their fee on Dec. 21). Once I saw this, I sent the item to the buyer. I used the shipping labels through eBay and sent it on Dec. 21, wanting to keep my above standard seller status. The item was delivered within a few days and then today (the 29th) I was notified that that the buyer wasnt a registered eBay user and that the payment was never received. How did they not know this sooner??? I called eBay this morning and they will not take ANY responsibility for exposing me to this fraudulent customer even after 1) listing that payment had been made on their site and charging me a 10% fee and 2) waiting a full week to notify me that the buyer was not a registered user or that the payment had never actually gone through. They sent me to PayPal to submit a claim through them. I gave up after being on hold with PayPal for an hour!!! It is eBays responsibility to go after fraudulent users. Individual sellers (who are the backbone of its very prosperous company) do not have the capacity and resources to litigate with individuals who are fradulent. Do the right thing eBay!
