Forgive my leadership rant for the day: Government - TopicsExpress

Forgive my leadership rant for the day: Government organizations waste more time and effort on maintaining an image than then they do creating the substance of the image to begin with. Just because you have the outside world perceiving you are excellent doesnt mean you are. Howard Schultz, of Starbucks, made this statement ... Dont let others define you! Ive been conducting reading(s) on conflict negotiation and conflict resolution. People in organizations fall into a trap created by the organizational community called, self-fulfilling prophecies. Meaning, a (false) perception is made about them that isnt stopped by leadership. Thus, the person feeling they cant fight the perception begins to actually believe the perception ... And becomes the perception. True leadership is being able to detect / discern perception verses reality ... Then transform the individual(s) and transform the perception in the eyes of others. The scriptures use this verse, As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he. If you get someone believing they are screw ups ... Over time, guess what they will begin to think and guess what they will (in their own eyes) become? The minute government institutions, organizational leaders and parents quit worrying about how they are perceive or how their children (guess who raised them!?) make them look bad ... The quicker true & longer lasting transformation will take place. Leadership = its not about you!
