Formed as a way to vent the hardship and struggles faced by the African-American communities in the Deep South of the United States in the latter part of the 19th century, Blues music emerged as a genre, fusing elements of spirituals, work songs, field hollers, shouts , and chants, all while carrying simple rhymed narrative ballads. Since then, Blues has been a part of many other popular genres, namely Jazz, Rock and Roll, and Rhythm and Blues. On August 17, 2011, a petition was launched online with the intention of recognising and establishing an International Blues Music Day, eventually culminating in the first Saturday of August being celebrated as IBMD. In celebration of the Blues, we spoke to some of Goa’s acclaimed Blues musicians about their love for the genre. Go through the images to read what each of the musicians had to say. Leave them and us your thoughts on the Blues in the comments section below. thegoan.net/The-Great-Goan-Weekend/Soul-Kadi-/Feeling-the-Blues/08355.html#.U-B_r_mSwQg
