The problem with community, and with place, is not one of scarcity. It is the problem of setting limits, of making choices. Our problems with our cities and places and communities are the same as our problems with our diet: too much quantity, not enough quality. We have too much land, too much cheap gas, too many highways...We have Walmarts and Homearamas delivering dish sets and 2,500-square-foot houses for a quarter, but with little value, longevity, or character in either. To live a more full life, a more sane and balanced life, we need less of everything...Prosperity is not synonymous with health. -Alex Marshall
