Former India hockey goalkeeper, Shankar Laxman, would have turned 80 today. He was part of the Olympic team at Melbourne 1956 (gold), Rome 1960 (silver) and Tokyo 1964 (gold). He played in three Asian games - Tokyo 1958, Djakarta 1962 and Bangkok 1966 and the team won the title each time. He was the first goalkeeper to captain an international hockey team. Called the Rock of Gibraltar, he was given the Arjuna award in 1964 and the Padma Shri in 1967
