Former JSU prez. Dr. Ronald Mason gets another vote of no convidence...the Revelations of the Revolution continue... ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Hey, Yall, I AM making faith! Well, well, well! It looks like that Phoenix bird idea of Ron Mason has come home to roost. Mason, for the second time in his professional career in the field of higher education has received a vote of no confidence. This long FB post is a de ja vu moment about MY contribution to recent civil rights movement history! Not bragging, or being cocky, but just confidently wanting some of Yall to know more about who I am and what makes me tick and ticks me off! The first time for a vote of no confidence in Ronald Masons leadership was with the JSU faculty senate and a handful of Black state legislators. Now, the Southern University (SU) faculty senate has given him two thumbs down as SUs System President. Sometimes, you can bring a horse to knowledge, but you cant make em think! THIS RECOLLECTION MOMENT IS A CLASIC PRIME EXAMPLE: Do some of Yall remember when I wrote a scathing article in the Jackson Advocate about Mason willingly toting the water of former Gov. Haley Barbours idea to merge JSU, ASU and MVSU under an envisioned Phoenix University, and name then Mason as its first president? I am not a graduate of any of these HBCUs, and neither is Mason. The major difference in our educational backgrounds is that Mason calls himself Dr. Ronald Mason, which technically he can insist that others also call him or address him as Dr, Ronald Mason, because he does hold a Juris Doctorate (law) degree. But, most of us know or traditionally recognize someone as Dr. as someone who has a medical degree or a Ph.D. degree from an accredited college or university. Anyway, Mason tried to sell this brain-dead idea of a merged JSU, ASU, and MVSU to some of Hinds County Black legislators, first. Of course, they immediately called me up as soon as the meeting was over with Mason to hurry up and give me the 411, and they wanted ME to take the lead in publically kicking his arse! And, of course, I love a good fight, especially against the governments establishment (usually OLDER, WHITE MEN) and in my opinion, their Black mindless minions. So, I asked the strong Black legislators for one thing--the black and white documentation to prove what I was willing to publically say. Yall, I may act crazy or look like Im just out here in left field talking S*#T without anything in black and white to substantiate the very serious allegations of malfeasance or the misappropriation of taxpayers money. And, especially NOW about the repurposing, (i.e., UMMC Cancer Institute Building-gate now up to approx. $70M and still unresolved, to at least Rebirths and our supporters satisfaction saga, etc.). And, we still DONT knowwhat the state or feds granted some of these seemingly corrupt entities, institutions, or elected D.I.R.T (Democrat. Independent. Republican. Tea Party) political leanings individuals, to do. Yall, MY Mama and Daddy, my Uncle Jimmie Travis, as well as 80% of the legitimate Veterans of the Civil Rights Movement who are still alive, and lives in Jackson, --and, watch this--each and every one of the closest top Lieutenants that Dr. King personally trained himself, took me under their wings and poured all of what they had to give into me to keep the Freedom Summer legacy and Dr. Kings dream alive!!! So, naw, none of my folks didnt raise NO FOOL to write a public check that my a$$ cant cash--at all. If I say it, you can take it to the bank!! And, it wont come back NSF or account closed. (lol 4 times) So, I got my black and white in hand, called Mason up to privately discuss the pressing matter, and he refused to call me back, and I heard that Mason even joked about, who gonna listen to HER over Me, anyway? After all, I have a law degree, and she has NO legal, B.S/B.A. college degree, medical, masters or Ph.D. All this loud mouth, pushy Black WOMAN has is--a high school diploma! YEP! THATS IT! For real--all Is is got is a high skool diplomat. And, I always laugh at folks who laugh at me. I know too many educated fools! When I heard from very, very reliable sources that he was talking about my educational background, or more so the lack thereof, like it is something wrong with me and I should not be respected as a WOMAN LEADER, and, HECKY NAW, He, the great Dr. Ronald Mason was not going to call THAT crazy woman back, I said to myself, Allllllright! (in the late Mr. Charles Tisdales deep baritone voice). So, I started publically lighting into his behind like white on rice on the radio show Straight Talk, and then in the Jackson Advocate newspaper! I wrote in the JA something along these lines that Mason was, in my opinion, nothing more than a Black lackey, water toting boy for Gov. Bubba to try to seize fiscal and physical control of JSU, ASU and MVSU and merge the three to help with underfunded programs and have a larger pot of money to divvy up so all of them could expand their student population and become more like the urban mission of JSU. PA-LEASE! I called Masons rising Phoenix University idea as brain-dead thinking, told him that he was flying to high and mighty and if he were not careful, his wings would be torched by the S-O-N, not the s-u-n! I suggested that we as a alums and concerned community folk need put our collective foot square up his you know what (figuratively speaking only) and run his sorry arse out of town on a the next rail of the first thing smoking and leaving our city toward New Orleans, LA--his hometown! And, some of the elitistBlack leaders and more dignified-acting mucky mucks called me up and asked me to give Mason some slack! Hes a Black leader; Hes a Black man; Hes really a nice, decent Christian-like person; I know him and he aint like that. You know me. WE are alright with each other. So, you can trust me! blah, blah, blah. I said back to them that all that may be true and accurate as to how he personably is, but Mason, as President of JSU was still a threat to the entire history and legacy of the states top three HBCUs in his professional capacity. And, the ONLY options I would even entertain is if he would leave town, or resign! Didnt matter to me one way or the other. If you give the enemy an inch, he will take a mile. So, Yall, I was not gonna budge one inch on my vocal public position of opposition to Masons brain-dead thinking of him being the President of a Phoenix University bird with an expansive winged span so large that it would to cover JSU, ASU and MVSU rising from the ashes scenario, would fly! NOT! Also, I wasnt going to violate my personal principles that I operate under all the time, anyhow. What happened then? A few weeks later, Mason announced that he was resigning from JSU as president, and accepting a new position at SU as System President. Its too bad that so many Black folks seem to drink the same kind of Jim Jones Kool-Aid. They would rather drink some of this kind of Kool-Aid to help kill off Black progress just to keep from joining ME--publically or privately in holding Black leaders accountable for the poisonous public policy decisions some of these so-called Black leaders make that hurt the lest of these, and most times, primarily other po Black folks. Although didnt nobody in SU educational hierarchy want to take me seriously or simply listen to lil ole me with no college degree forewarnings that were spot on, Im finally glad that somebody at SU finally saw the light of day. And, now, the SU authorities MUST honor these astute professors unanimous vote of no confidence in Mason. Or, they will continue to do a disservice to their current and future students, staff, administrators and faculty that could become long-term and irreparable. So, pray for the SU faculty senate folks and others concerned to stay the course, and, keep the faith.
