Former Orlando Pirates coach and Bafana Bafana assistant coach Owen Da Gama has been named as the head coach of the South African U23 team, while Bafana’s other assistant coach, Thabo Senong, was named as the head coach for U20 team. The two, who will also remain as Shakes Mashaba’s assistants for the senior side, were announced in their new roles on Friday by SAFA president Danny Jordaan at a press conference on Friday. After their duties in Equatorial Guinea, they will have a busy 2015, with Da Gama having to qualify ‘Ama-glug-glug’ for the CAF African U23 Championships, while Senong will lead the already-qualified Amajita side to the finals of the CAF African U20 Championships. Senong was also Mashaba’s assistant during the U20 qualifiers in 2014, and is well regarded for having scouted many of the players who helped them reach the finals.
