Former Red Guard tries to bomb bus after tiff with driver In an outrageous case of perhaps what can be called road rage, a 77-year-old Chinese man has found himself in court after an altercation with a bus driver resulted in him attempting to bomb the bus. Luckily, no one was wounded as the bomb did not explode. Mr. Wang, the accused, appeared in the Wucheng District Court in Jinhua City, Zhejiang Province on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to the charges, according to local media reports. Persecutors have charged him with making explosives and threatening public security. “I was angry when he stopped the bus five meters away from the bus station on October 9, 2014”, Wang said in court, “I argued with him because he should stop the bus at the station”. “The next day I threw a rock at the windscreen after I failed to drag him out of the bus”, he continued, “and my daughter paid 600 yuan compensation for that”. However, that reprimand did not quell the elderly gentleman’s anger. In fact, it only fuelled it. He says that he was so enraged at the driver that he contemplated a suicide attack. Hours later, he did just that and tried to set off a hand grenade on the bus. Luckily for the driver and the 10 passengers onboard, the grenade did not go off, and nearby officers took control of Wang. “I saw an old man carrying a short stick, which looked like a bomb. It looked like something we see in TV drama,” recalled an eyewitness. “When he threw it out, I thought the bus would be on fire”, the eyewitness added. When asked how he had procured the grenade, Wang told the court that he used to be a Red Guard during Cultural Revolution, and had the bomb with him since then.
