Fort Polk celebrates the grand opening of a new commissary. Active military, retired military, and their dependents lined up this morning for their first look at a newly built 71-thousand square foot facility. The store is state of the art and offers an international delicatessen, sushi to go, and nearly 17-thousand items to choose from. The commissary was built with money collected from a five percent surcharge added to every transaction. Moreover, this surcharge eliminates any costs to the government. The commissary serves nearly 32-thousand authorized shoppers that live within 20 miles of the base.
