Fort Sill will have DELAYED OPENING for employees working SATURDAY. The AAFES Exchange at the intersection of Sheridan Road and Mow-Way Road will remain open 24/7. All facilities will close at 4 p.m. TODAY. SATURDAY -- Personnel report at 10 a.m. and facilities (AAFES, Commissary, MWR, etc.) will open at 10:30 a.m. and close at 4 p.m. Please do NOT arrive early so crews can sand/salt roads and parking lots. Personnel scheduled to support HBL should check with their supervisors to see if the weather has affected them. Fort Sills 26th Weather Detachment says we could get a significant amount of freezing rain FRIDAY evening and change to a rain snow mix into Saturday. It is expected to stop Saturday afternoon. Fort Sill roads are expected to be AMBER during this time. Use caution as roads will be wet and could have ice, especially on bridges, overpasses and intersections. **If conditions change and post roads go to RED, report/closing times could change as well. We will have updates here.** There have been eight on-post quarters that have had broken water pipes. Residents are told to keep their thermostats set to AT LEAST 65 degrees and follow the below cold-weather tips from Corvias Military Housing: (RK-PAO) Pipes that burst are a major cause of damage during cold weather. Following these recommendations will help prevent the freezing of water supply lines and pipes in your home: * Disconnect hoses from spigots and drain the hose. * Keep garage doors closed. * Open kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors to allow warmer air to circulate around the plumbing. Be sure to move any harmful cleaners and household chemicals out of the reach of children. * When the weather is very cold outside, let water drip from the faucets that are in close proximity to exterior walls. Running water through the pipe — even at a trickle — helps prevent pipes from freezing because the temperature of the water running through it is above freezing. This should be done for both hot and cold water faucets. * Keep the thermostat set to the same temperature both during the day and at night. * If you will be going away during cold weather, leave the heat on in your home and set to a temperature no lower than 55ºF. * Call your Community Office if you are going to be away from your home for an extended period of time so we can add you to the home watch list. Snow and Ice Removal Policy A Corvias Military Living contractor will clear or treat all streets and parking lots in each neighborhood following a snow or ice storm. A system is in place to clear main roads first to allow emergency vehicle access, and then proceed to clear all residential streets. We request your patience and help during the times roadways are being treated by limiting travel. Additionally, to allow crews to safely and efficiently clear roadways, we ask that you remove all personal and guest vehicles from the street prior to anticipated snowfall. Please park vehicles in your driveway and avoid blocking sidewalks. Should you need additional parking, you may park your vehicle(s) in the Southern Plains or Old Cavalry Post Community Center parking lots. Residents will be responsible for keeping their private porch, sidewalk and driveway free of snow and ice to avoid slips and falls. Once the winter weather has hit, snow shovels will be available for checkout as well as complimentary bags of salt at your Community Office You may pick up the salt prior to the winter storm. Please call your Corvias Community Office for additional questions or concerns.
