Forty-two years ago at a youth camp outside of Perkins, Oklahoma I asked the Lord to forgive me of my sins and to save me. Praise God, under an old oak tree that overlooked a cross made of tree trunks the Lord Jesus Christ forgave my sin, gave me a new life, became my true Father, sealed me with and placed his Holy Spirit inside of me and made me his eternal child. It has been an interesting road but all along the way, good and bad the Lord has been there. That foundation laid in my life through the work of Ludie Smith and Bro Burt Harrison has been battered many times, and at times all the wood hay and stubble I built upon it has been blow away. Yet Christ remains. Imagine this, only recently have I come to the understanding that God called me to teach not to preach. I always have punished myself for not going full time into the gospel preaching ministry. The doors would slam shut and I would feel myself to be a failure. Only very recently, after 40 years as a Christian have I come to the understanding God called to service. Period. To look for where God is already working and to join him. Making music, classroom teaching, understanding student needs and trying to help them. This is what I am called to. Keep me in prayer. I am not sure where the road is going because it has taken many twists and turns, but I will not be alone. I have the wife God gave me, Sheri Higgs. Most importantly I have Christ my foundation and my friend.
