Fossil Ridge High School (FRHS) opened ten years ago, August 2004. Do you remember the two names that were bantered about and rejected by students and then city residents before Fossil Ridge was selected? FRHS opened without a senior class, but was also unique because it had junior high students attending that lived in the boundary area slated for Kinard Core Knowledge Junior High School (opened in Fall of 2006). On August 12, 2004, Stacy Nick of the Coloradoan wrote, “Poudre School Districts newest high school is its first built using the districts Sustainable Design Guidelines, which are used to make schools more environmentally friendly. The school will be a model of energy efficiency by using various methods including all classrooms will be day lit. The school will be air- conditioned using an ice storage system that makes ice at night, The cool air created by the ice is circulated throughout the building during the day.”
