Found a copy of an old game called Superpower 2 on a ancient hard drive I was recovering data from. Dragged and dropped the game folder onto my current drive, and surprise, surprise it worked! While coming out in 2001/2002 and not being overly flashy, it is one of the most absolutely fascinating games I have ever had the pleasure to play. Basically, you take over the reigns of any country in the world circa 2001. Wound up playing it all night last night. I choose the US and immediately turned it into a communist state with a 90% income tax rate while fully funding all sectors of the economy, education, health and human services. Also pumped massive funds into combatting the corruption that is prevalent in such a regime while promoting stability through ever-present propaganda campaigns. Changed the time rate so a day would pass by every second. By 2005 I had not only paid off the national debt, but had $6 TRILLION in reserve while pulling in $1.2 trillion every year. I then started entering into economic, research, and cultural exchange treaties with other world powers. Ended the Cuban embargo and fostered openness with them. That scored a ton of points on the world stage regarding relations. Funny thing is Malaysia DESPISED me after that (probably because I opened up a cheap labor market super close to home) and so I did an embargo on them instead. Heres where things started to get really interesting. By 2011 I had $13 trillion in reserve so I thought itd be a great idea to foster world peace by paying off every other nations debt on the planet (except North Korea cause they refused it). Cost $7 trillion but it was cool. I also ended all US support of Israel in order to improve relations with the Arab states. Went a step further and fostered Arab Coalition of states to declare war on (but not actually attack) Israel as well. Figured if they grew closer together it would help combat unrest and extremism like we have today. Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Jordan, and Lebanon all signed on. Time passed. Saudi Arabia declares was on South Africa out of nowhere. The Saudis win and occupy their territory. I in turn foster a treaty to have Saudi Arabia annex South Africa which they did. The world was never the same. Japan declared war on Saudi Arabia and invaded. The aforementioned coalition of Arab states comes to Saudi Arabias defense and wipes out the invading Japanese force before proceeding to attack Japan on its home soil and Japan is soundly defeated. Several European states (Poland, Germany, and Switzerland) then get involved to drive the Arabs off Japan. Limited engagements take place world wide in between these powers. With all this unrest happening, India and Pakistan go absolutely ballistic against each other. Not sure who started that war, but it ended with Pakistan firing their entire nuclear arsenal at India just as India was conquering the last Pakistani territory. To help India rebuild, I foster a treaty allowing India to annex Pakistan. China, who up to this point had remained insular, sees an expansionist power on its borders and declares war on India. They quickly overtake the weakened state and annex it into their territory. Then the world REALLY goes to shit. A coalition of Pacific nations come together and declare war on the European powers defending Japan against the Arab states while various regional nations in Africa do the same. Amidst this chaos, I in the United Socialist States of America, have been sitting back watching the world burn. I spend the next few years upgrading my military forces until the time is ripe and begin my quest for a Pax Americana and a singular United Earth. I join in many and varied conflicts with the European powers and rapidly bring those to a close. This has put me at war with something around 40 nations. China, seeing the American juggernaut in action for the first time launches a sneak nuclear exchange declaring war upon me. I in turn invade their territory and quickly begin to annex their provinces in revenge. Not happy to see America on its borders, Russia declares war as well. I wipe out the Russian menace and begin cataloguing my territorial gains made against all the other nations. I control a majority of the Middle East, Indonesia, and Asia, with scattered holdings in Africa. I start to consolidate these gains through annexation and then 2/3 of the remaining nations on Earth declare war. Russia, France, and England all launch preemptory nuclear strikes, but my forces are still scattered around the globe and the damage is minimal. My forces quickly move to quell the upstart nationals and I have conquered them all within six months. Then began the long process of annexing them one by one while going into the nations in between that had not actually declared war on me. Made it most of the way around the globe last night before bed, but I still have around 30 nations left until Earth is united under one government. I had $74 trillion in reserve at the end, but finding all of the remaining few is gonna be hard as most of them are miniscule nation states in the Caribbean and the Pacific ocean that are hard as hell to see on the in-game world map.
