Found last nights Oscars drably predictable... with one infuriating exception: THE ACT OF KILLING was snubbed for Best Documentary. Academy folks, are you kidding? This is one of the most powerful exposes of a corrupt, murderous regime ever made. An Oscar nod would have helped draw attention to the appalling situation in Indonesia, but you snubbed it. Shame on you. Moving on, heres my (slightly belated) list of favourite flicks released in the UK in 2013: 1. Django Unchained 2. Zero Dark Thirty 3. American Hustle 4. Iron Man 3 5. Star Trek Into Darkness 6. The Conjuring 7. Lincoln 8. Mud 9. Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa Biggest disappointment: Man Of Steel Full disclosure: still havent seen Gravity (looks a bit meh to me), Prisoners, Nebraska, All Is Lost, Upstream Colour, Thor: The Dark World, Rush (starring Thor), Captain Phillips. (The Act of Killing not included as its beyond absurd to lump it in with Iron Man and Captain Kirk.)
