Found this on my new insurance bill with Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance: VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTION TO ELECT $1.00 Any guesses where a copy of my bill will be going TOMORROW! This company is listed as a Non-For Profit and the law plainly states: A non for profit canNOT ask for a campaign contribution. That is prohibited as political campaign activity, as long as the nonprofit is a 501(c)(3) organization. Political campaign activity means participating or intervening in any local, state, or federal election for public office, whether in support of or opposition to a candidate. This includes endorsing or opposing a candidate; contributing money or services directly to a candidate, political action committee, or political party; and making expenditures, such as for advertising, or donating in-kind help such as staff time or supplies, that aid a candidate. The IRS also has ruled that giving a candidate a rating such as approved or highly qualified is prohibited campaign activity, even if the rating is based on objective criteria and does not urge the public to vote for or against any candidate. A 501(c)(3) may not establish or administer a political action committee (PAC) for making political expenditures or contributions.
