The foundation foods are low cost and high nutrition. These form the base foods for many meals, both omnivore and vegetarian. The assistants provide needed vitamins, minerals and fiber or help give better protein balance to meatless meals. The allies are helper items that either assit the body in assimilating vitamins and minerals or in the preparation of the above foods. As long as a wide variety of foods are eaten the nutritional bases will be covered quite well. Whenever possible the least refined version of the food should be chosen in order to maximize nutrient intake. Contrary to popular belief not every meal needs to contain meat. However animal products should never be fully removed from your diet.
