Fountain Valley, CA —Recently, SureFire, LLC, manufacturer of high performance illumination tools, suppressors and tactical products, has been the subject of factually false and blatantly misleading reports written on several forums and Social Media channels, accusing SureFire, LLC of infringing on patented features of a competitor’s product. Unfortunately, these statements have taken the form of personal attacks on the integrity of SureFire and Barry Dueck, Director of Suppressor Division “We will not tolerate the speculative reports written on Social Media Outlets and Forums surrounding the SF Ryder 22 Suppressor and do not condone the parties that start and spread these mistruths. Our character is not built on Internet gossip or the defamation of other brands. The foundation of SureFire is building the best product through engineering, technology, and innovation. We have built on that foundation for thirty-five years and we will continue to do so every day.” [Dr. John Matthews, president and founder of SureFire, LLC] Specifically, the false accusations revolve around the aesthetics of the newest suppressor, the SF Ryder 22. Aesthetically, the outer design of the SF Ryder 22 was inspired by the fluted characteristics of the SureFire Pen as well as the flutes on a gun barrel that work to reduce the suppressor weight. This is particularly crucial for use with a .22 pistol or rifle. On May 21, 2013 the United States Patent and Trademark Office awarded SureFire, LLC two design patents for the exterior design (Patent #D682, 974 and #D682, 975). In our application we referenced existing suppressor designs as prior art including those with similar aesthetics. The issuance of both of these design patents to SureFire, stands as proof of the unique design and innovative engineering that differentiates the SF Ryder from any other suppressor on the market today. “SureFire conducts extensive research and development to create cutting edge technology. Intellectual property is the lifeblood of our company and is something that our American workers and veterans at SureFire depend on to sustain their livelihoods. These slanderous and false statements should not taint our customers’ opinion, nor will we tolerate an attack on the character and reputation that we have earned.” [Barry Dueck, Director of Suppressor Division and former U.S. Marine] Statements made that infer any malice towards veterans are a direct insult to SureFire and its employees, including the many veterans who work within the walls of SureFire. SureFire continues to identify new ways to contribute to the veteran community, including serving as a founding member of HAVA – Honored American Veterans Afield – and working to assist, and make contributions, to wounded warriors as they transition to their civilian lives after their service to our country. SureFire will always work to help ensure the safety and success of our warfighters and peacekeepers around the world who go into harm’s way.
