Four Corners Invite: (excerpts taken from the Daily Sun): Girls Results had Flagstaff in 1st, Page took 2nd, Hopi took third, NPA was fourth and the Panthers finished in 19th. In the boys team results, Page was first, Tuba City claimed second, Hopi was third while Flagstaff sneaked into the top five with a fourth-place tally. Coconino finished 13th while the NPA Spartans placed 18th. For the Eagles in the girls race, Alix Manci (19:23.5) and Fiona Nicholson finished fifth and sixth, respectively, while Ashley Onsae took 24th for the Eagles. Ganado High School’s Daangoiina Haven and Nikesha Eagleman were second and third for the girls, respectively. Valentina Nyhart was the Spartans top finisher with a seventh-place time of 19:37.4 while her teammate Corrin Kalinich was 13th. Coconino’s top finisher was Tenetke Watson in 99th. Flagstaff coach Trina Painter said it was the perfect day for racing at Buffalo Park as girls and boys varsity records were nearly broken. “This is a fast course, the weather was great and the competition was phenomenal, resulting in fast times for a majority of the runners today,” Painter said. Tuba City’s Anthony Masayesva nearly broke Johnathan Yazzie’s 2011 record of 15:42 as he won the boys 5K in 15:49.5. Page High School filled the next three places with Tyron Yazzie in second, Jeffery Miller in third and Xiaija Schuldies in fourth.
