Four plead not guilty to extortion: JOHOR BARU, Oct 7 — Four men pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to a charge of extorting a Bangladeshi man last month. G. Mahgendran, 35, A. Deniskumar, 34, K.Siridono, 23, and M.M C Mugunthan, 21, together with six other persons still at large, are charged with committing extortion by putting Md Moner, 30, in fear of death or of grievous hurt with a knife. The offence was allegedly committed at Jalan Rotan Lumpit, Taman Ria, Plentong here at about 7.30am on September 9 this year. Judge Hassan Abd Ghani allowed all the accused bail of RM10,000 each and ordered them to report themselves to the nearest police station fortnightly. Meanwhile, in the same court, Deniskumar, Siridono and M C Mugunthan also pleaded not guilty to a charge of voluntarily causing grievous hurt on A. Murugan, 36, a caretaker of an entertainment centre, with a sword. The offence was allegedly committed at Restoran Tapai Tang, Jalan Chengai, Taman Melodies here at about 4.10am on September 17 this year. Hassan also allowed them bail of RM10,000 each and for them to report themselves at the nearest police station every two weeks. Deputy public prosecutor Mahadi Abdul Jumaat prosecuted in both cases, while the four accused were represented by lawyer Mazri Muhammad.
