Four years ago this exact same week I took to the streets of French Quarter to rebel and demonstrate my dissatisfaction in the direction St.Maarten was going. Not enough employment opportunities for young St.Maarteners, inefficient housing, the increasing cost of living, capacity of our health care system, consumer rights, human rights, were all things i was concerned about. I packed my bags a week later went to Holland and pursued my masters in European Law and Policy. Sense then i have grown a lot, i learned important concepts like representation, interest groups, grass roots movement, i have studied governance, law making, and policy making. From my studies in small Caribbean developing states a revolution in St.Maarten can come in two forms. Taking to the streets to riot, or building our own institutions to be our own checks. I have chosen to to build institutions and build on important infrastructure. I have chosen to run as a candidate on the Democratic party because our manifesto speaks of building a nation, and institutions to empower the people. On August 29th there will be a true test of St.Maarten character, this will be the most significant election on St.Maarten, one that will determine our future. On August 29th choose a party that has qualified professionals from the public sector, the private sector, along with community activists. Choose Red, Choose #6, Hasani B. Ellis a candidate fit for parliament on St.Maarten.
