Fourth schools meeting is final one SATELLITE BEACH — Olivia Brennan bought her house near Sea Park Elementary with her son in mind. Livingonly a block away, Teagan would grow up near school friends — and the ability to walk, bike or skate to class. But that year, in 2012, the Brevard School Board announced it was closing schools — including, potentially, Sea Park. The beachside school came up for closure a second time in 2013, but was saved by a split vote on the Brevard School Board. Now, in 2014, parents and teachers at the school remain concerned that the school will close, even if elected officials are not saying so directly. Up to four more schools could close if a proposed half-cent sales tax fails in November – in addition to the four schools that already closed in the last two years. Brevard School Board members are saying no one school is being targeted for closure. “It’s frustrating,” said Brennan at a meeting designed to gather input on budget decisions in upcoming years.
