Fox & Weeks is privileged to serve the family and loved ones of Lucy Evelyn Webb Osborne Horton, 83, who passed away at the Azalealand Nursing Home in Savannah, GA on December 2, 2014 after a long illness. Born September 5, 1931, in Mayking, KY, to Ora and Critt Webb, she graduated with a degree in early education from Morehead State in 1951. She was married to the late Victor Osborne of Melvin, KY and they had one son. Lucy taught in Kentucky and Ohio before settling in Savannah as a second grade teacher at May Howard Elementary. She truly enjoyed teaching and always exhibited a personal interest in the success of her students in the classroom. She retired in 1987 from the Chatham County public school system. Lucy was blessed to find love again and married H.B. “Tom” Horton, Jr. of Savannah, GA in 1981. Family was most important to Lucy and she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother providing love and encouragement in every way. Her other interests included travelling, fishing with Tom, and spending time with family, whatever the occasion. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Wilmington Island (Savannah, GA) and was part of the Friendship Sunday School Class. Lucy is survived by her husband H.B. “Tom” Horton, Jr.; children Terry and Lori Horton, Susan and Keith Burr, Bill and Lynda Osborne; grandchildren Jennifer Burr Maggioni of Savannah, GA, Andrew Burr of Atlanta, GA; Thomas Horton and Kristen Horton of Savannah, GA; Katherine Daniel, Kristen Daniel and Kaelyn V. Osborne of Rincon, GA; sisters Larue Webb Compton, Irene Webb Cook and brother-in-law Billy Compton of Savannah, GA; nieces Karen Gose Hunsucker of Lexington, KY, Ellodee Compton Stewart of Savannah, GA and Kaye Gose Cook of Mayking, KY; nephews Joe Gose and Jeff Gose of Mayking, KY and devoted friend, Michelle Jones and many other nieces, nephews and friends. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Carlene Webb Gose of Mayking, KY. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of the Azalealand Nursing Home for the wonderful care provided to “Miss Lucy” during her time there. The family is also grateful to Hospice Savannah for their support and compassion during this most difficult time. The funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Friday in the Fox & Weeks Islands Chapel. The family will receive friends from 11 am until 1 pm prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
