Fragile Atmosphere Hovers Over UNZA The fragile atmosphere at the University of Zambia continues as the government promise to pay the students their balance for their meal allowances is yet to be honoured. The students attempted a march on Friday night after another week went without their plea being honoured but their action was thwarted by a heavy handed police presence. Students had gathered by the ‘monk square by 16:00 hours but the police got wind of the impending riot and mobilized themselves to flood campus with their presence. Police, who last week stormed the hostels with teargas forcing two students to jump off their three store buildings, were at it again using teargas as their first line of defence. Students have vowed to continue demonstrating until their demands are met. The Vice Chancellor addressed the students on Sunday promising that their demands will be met during the week but the demands have gone unheeded.
