France’s plan for beating Australia in Friday’s amical was clear even to my untrained — if otherwise handsome and bewitchingly pigmented — eyes, amounting to something like this over and over: 1. Recover possession of the ball and pass it to Samir Nasri, standing just shy of midfield; and 2. Have Nasri send a ball directly to the feet of a waiting Franck Ribery on the left wing; and 3. Have Ribery dribble past one or three defenders and then deflect it off a teammate into the goal.
