Franchise CPL players to get US$150k By JOEL BAILEY Saturday, June 22 2013 THE FRANCHISE players in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) T20 are all entitled to salaries of US$150,000, according to an article on the tournament’s website. The six teams — Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel, Antigua Hawksbills, Barbados Tridents, Guyana Amazon Warriors, Jamaica Tallawahs and St Lucia Zouks, each have a West Indies and International franchise players among their 15-man rosters. For Trinidad and Tobago, Dwayne Bravo and Ross Taylor are the franchise players, while Antigua have Marlon Samuels and Ricky Ponting. The other franchise players are Kieron Pollard and Shoaib Malik (Barbados), Sunil Narine and Mohammed Hafeez (Guyana), Chris Gayle and Muttiah Muralitharan (Jamaica), Darren Sammy and Herschelle Gibbs (St Lucia). The franchise players were pre-selected on May 29 here in Trinidad while the draft of players took place in Jamaica on June 5. However, the salaries for the chosen players depended on their selections in the draft. Pool A in the draft comprised a total of 26 available players — 14 elite West Indian players and 12 elite overseas players, with each team having four selections, including a maximum of two overseas players. The First Round picks — Darren Bravo (TT), Johnson Charles (Antigua), Shakib Al Hasan (Barbados), Lendl Simmons (Guyana), Andre Russell (Jamaica) and Albie Morkel (St Lucia) will each collect US$100,000 while the Second Round picks — Fidel Edwards (TT), Kieran Powell (Antigua), Dwayne Smith (Barbados), Ramnaresh Sarwan (Guyana), Ravi Rampaul (Jamaica) and Tino Best (St Lucia) will receive US$90,000. Aaron Finch (TT), Kemar Roach (Antigua), Umar Akmal (Barbados), Denesh Ramdin (Guyana), Shaun Marsh (Jamaica) and Tamim Iqbal (St Lucia), who were chosen in the Third Round, will be US$70,000 richer while US$50,000 will each go to the Fourth Round picks Samuel Badree (TT), Steven Smith (Antigua), Jason Holder (Barbados), James Franklin (Guyana), Vernon Philander (Jamaica) and Luke Pomersbach (St Lucia). In Pool B, over 100 domestic players, six overseas players and the remaining players who were not selected in Pool A were featured, with each team having five selections, including a maximum of one overseas player. The First Round picks will each get US$40,000 — Kevon Cooper (TT), Sheldon Cotterrell (Antigua), Shannon Gabriel (Barbados), Christopher Barnwell (Guyana), Danza Hyatt (Jamaica) and Shane Shillingford (St Lucia). The Second and Third Round selectees will get US$25,000 respectively — Kevin O’Brien and Sulieman Benn (TT), Dave Mohammed and Devon Thomas (Antigua), Rayad Emrit and Ashley Nurse (Barbados), Martin Guptill and Krishmar Santokie (Guyana), Carlton Baugh and Nikita Miller (Jamaica), Devon Smith and Andre Fletcher (St Lucia). Collecting US$10,000 apiece are the Fourth and Fifth Round picks — Adrian Barath and Delorn Johnson (TT), Gavin Tonge and Justin Kemp (Antigua), Carlos Brathwaite and Jonathan Carter (Barbados), William Perkins and Steven Jacobs (Guyana), Jacques Rudolph and Chadwick Walton (Jamaica), Garey Mathurin and Liam Sebastien (St Lucia). And Pool C was made up of Under-23 players from the Caribbean and the remaining regional players who were not selected in Pool B, with each team having four selections, including two mandatory Under-23 players from the countries/territories of the respective franchises. Each of the Pool C selectees will get US$5,000. Those players are Nicholas Pooran, Yannick Cariah (U-23), Miguel Cummins, Justin Guillen (TT), Rahkeem Cornwall, Jahmar Hamilton (U-23), Anthony Martin, Montcin Hodge (Antigua), Kyle Mayers, Raymon Reifer (U-23), Kirk Edwards, Devendra Bishoo (Barbados), Ronsford Beaton, Trevon Griffith (U-23), Narsingh Deonarine, Veerasammy Permaul (Guyana), Jermaine Blackwood, Akeem Dewar (U-23), Dave Bernard, Nkrumah Bonner (Jamaica), Dalton Polius, Kavem Hodge (U-23), Kenroy Peters, Nelon Pascal (St Lucia).
