Francie Corry wanted to ask the community this: I am wondering - TopicsExpress

Francie Corry wanted to ask the community this: I am wondering if any other social workers on here are struggling with the medical model. I work as a hospice social worker, and I find there is a huge hierarchy with both social workers and chaplains at the bottom. Our work is so important with counseling the dying and providing them needed resources, as is the chaplains work important. I find this true across the field when working with the medical model. I understand that we, as social workers, had to ally ourselves with the field of medicine to receive respect and have our voices heard. I am just wondering, at what cost. We are a healing field. We are social/spiritual/emotional healers. Our role is so important. I am at a loss of what to do in my career right now, feeling the frustration of our role not being appreciated or utilized to the fullest. It is not a complaint against my particular work or company, I think this is a universal problem we are facing. Does anyone on this page have insight they could share? Thank you.
