Frank Lampard has announced his retirement from international football, after making 106 appearances for the senior side over a highly successful career. The former Chelsea midfielder, who recently had his number 8 shirt at Chelsea taken by Oscar, has been in the headlines recently after leaving the Blues this summer to make the move to the USA, joining New York City FC. However, within days of joining the newly formed American side, Lampard joined Chelsea’s rivals Manchester City on a six month loan deal. Now Lampard has followed in the path of former England skipper Steven Gerrard, by announcing his retirement from international football for England. Lampard made his debut in October 1999 and scored 29 international goals for his country. He was also voted England Player of the Year for two consecutive years in 2004 and 2005. Lampard went to Brazil this summer with Roy Hodgson’s side and played in the last game against Costa Rica – a fixture which turned out to be his last in a Three Lions shirt.
