Free Workshop: Pet Nutrition Myths & Mysteries Thursday, August 14, 2014 from 6:30 to 8 pm. The workshop is free although reservations are required as space is limited. To make reservations, call the Center at 546-4543, ext. 310. Donations are accepted. This workshop will discuss common food myths, including: * Never feed people food to pets * He only loves me because I feed him * Pets digestive needs are different now because they have been domesticated * Only professionally prepared scientifically formulated foods are safe for pets. Balance shmalance! Carnivores eat meat, and goats eat grass right? What about diabetes? What about Kidney issues? Can cats eat dog food and vice versa? What about pelleted foods for my rabbit, hamster, rat, guinea pig, house pig . . . Guest non-profit will be providing a short presentation at the beginning of the workshop: In addition to the above presentation, the evening will include a presentation from Forgotten Felines of Sonoma County. Forgotten Felines has been serving our community for nearly 25 years. They offer low cost spay/neuter services, have adoption program, give medical care to cats in need and provide guidance and assistance to members of our community and (beyond) with any cat related issue! Dr. Jona Sun Jordan will be giving the presentation on pet nutrition. Dr. Jordan has been treating small animals at Coddingtown Veterinary Clinic since 1987. She purchased the clinic in 1992. She has expanded the scope of the Clinic to offer Holistic Medicine. The holistic integrative practice combines the best from both western medicine (dentistry, antibiotics, vaccinations, surgery, in house laboratory, etc.) with eastern medicine (acupuncture, herbal formulas, Tui Na, nutritional therapy) and other alternative methods like raw diets, laser therapy, supplements and stem cell therapy. Dr. Jordans experience includes: acupuncture via International Veterinary Acupuncture Society; Traditional Chinese Veterinary Herbal Medicine via the Chi Institute of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Jordan has made several trips to Beijing, China; and the Chi Institute in Florida for continued education in both acupuncture and herbal medicine. Dr. Jordan has achieved certification to perform stem cell therapy and laser therapy.
