Free vitamin D for 10m - People at risk of vitamin D deficiency should receive free supplements from councils, according to new health guidelines. A years supply of tablets would cost about £6, said the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence. A spokesman added: About 10m people may have low vitamin D status and so could be at risk and may not know. People with dark skin are most at risk. A Local Government Association spokesman said councils give out some free vitamin D but had to balance priorities on a limited budget.
